Library Services

The Working Men’s Institute is a full service public library serving New Harmony and Harmony Township as well those parts of Posey County served by the Alexandrian Public Library in Mount Vernon, and the Poseyville Carnegie Public Library in Poseyville, due to reciprocal borrowing agreements we maintain with those two libraries.

Library Cards

To obtain a library card visit the WMI with proof of address if you live in New Harmony or Harmony Township or a library card from either of the other two Posey County libraries if you live in those service areas. Your card will be kept on file at the library. If you live in the WMI service area and wish to have a library card with either of the other two Posey County libraries, you may request a letter from the WMI identifying you as a cardholder to present when you request a reciprocal card.

Books and books on tape are checked out for two weeks. Magazines and DVD’s are checked out for one week. One renewal may be requested for each item checked out in person or by phone (682-4806). Fines may be charged for overdue items. Borrowing privileges may be revoked for failure to return items.
