SUMMARY:The Boatload of Knowledge at 200: An Inaugural Bicentennial Lecture
DESCRIPTION:This program commemorates the 200th anniversary of the arrival 
 of the Philanthropist\, famously known as the “Boatload of Knowledge.”
  Its passengers—educators\, scientists\, artists\, and reformers—broug
 ht transformative ideas to the emerging Owen-Maclure community in 1826. Th
 eir influence played a significant role in shaping New Harmony into an imp
 ortant center for learning and social experimentation.\nThe event will inc
 lude remarks from Diane Sanders and Ryan Rokicki\, the Co-chairs of the Ow
 en-Maclure 200th Anniversary. The keynote lecture will be presented by Dr.
  Gerald Gutek\, a prominent historian of education and the author of sever
 al publications on early American schooling. Dr. Gutek will explore the si
 gnificance of the Boatload of Knowledge\, the individuals involved\, and t
 he enduring impact of their contributions to New Harmony and beyond.\n\n
