The America Welch Collection
American Welch lived in Griffin, Indiana her entire life, 1902-1996. Her family endured the 1925 tornado that devastated Griffin. Her youngest brother died in the event. Coming home from her teaching job in Cynthiana, America was one of the first eye-witnesses to the destruction.
For years she was a columnist for local newspapers and was an active volunteer in the mental health field.
The small collection includes awards given to and articles about Mrs. Welch. The bulk of the collection is news articles concerning Griffin.
