WMI Partners with New Harmony School to Encourage Young Readers

The Working Men’s Institute has recently purchased the complete sets of Indiana Young Hoosier Picture Books, Intermediate Books and Middle School Books for 2011-2012. That’s 60 books deemed to be outstanding in their categories.

The Young Hoosier Book Award was established in 1974, and then expanded to three categories in 1992:  Kindergarten through third grade, 4th through 6th grade and 6th through 8th grade.
The award is designed to encourage student reading by having students, teachers, parents, and media specialist identify 20 of their favorite books in each category, of which one winner is chosen in each grade division every year.

The Indiana Young Hoosier Books are included in the books New Harmony children may read and be tested on to fulfill their reading requirements. In this way, the WMI helps to provide more choices and more chances to read books every reading level.  Check the books out at the WMI; take the tests at New Harmony School.

The WMI endeavors to provide top quality reading materials for the children of the community, and the Young Hoosier Books are a prime example of that commitment.
So bring the kids over to the WMI where they can find great books and earn points in their reading program.
